1)  Q Head Lice... how can I keep my child from coming in contact with them?
A
Educating your child about head lice is the first step to prevention.
Head lice do not jump or fly, but do like to hang out in places that "scalp flakes" are. For example teaching your child to avoid sharing things like caps, jackets, hair ties, brushes and combs are a great start. Another way to avoid the spread of head lice is to encourage your children to take their own sleeping bag to a friend's house for sleep overs and not to share pillows and blankets.
2)  Q When I'm not sure if my child should stay home "sick", what are the guidelines?

I think that the parent always knows their own child best. If your child is not acting themselves, or is complaining of not feeling well when normally they are anxious to come to school, then I would keep them home for the day to watch and evaluate.

The policies that MFISD have are few, but very specific: A child...
1. Must be fever free for 24 hours after having a fever of 100.0 or more
2. May not stay at school if vomiting or having persistant diarrhea.
3. Must be free from infection, or in the process of treatment (antibiotics), before returning to school.
