Hi, my name is Shannon O'Connor I am the School Nurse for Highland lakes Elementary School. I welcome you to a another healthy school year.

If you need to contact me for any reason my direct line in the clinic is 830-798-3563. If you get my voicemail I will return any phone messages.

Information about the clinic:

MFISD medication policy:All medications to be given in the clinic must be brought by the parent or legal gardian, no medication will be transported by the student to and from school or taken on the buses. All medications must be in the original container, with the correct label, showing the students name, medication name, dispensing instructions, and physicians name and date ordered. A physicians order is required on any medication to be administered 30 days or longer. This includes prescription medications and all over the counter medications.

If you have any address or phone number changes, please remember to keep the school informed so that we are able to contact you in case of your child's illness or emergency. Also update any changes in people allowed to pick up your child, and remind them to bring identification with them.

Mary Uvalle is the nurse-extender for the clinic. She is covering the clinic during my lunch break 11:30 - 12:00, and helping out when needed.

Hearing/Vision screenings are performed within 120 days of school start. If you receive a referral for further evaluation for a hearing or vision problem please set up an appointment with a hearing or vision specialist so that corrections can be made early in the school year. Acanthosis Nigricans a screening for possible Type 2 diabetes is done at the same time. This is a marker found on the nape of the neck that signals high insulin levels in the body. You will also be sent a referral if this is found in your child. Please contact your physician for an evaluation.

If your child receives clothes from the clinic due to a health problem please remember to launder and return them to the clinic. If they received clothes due to financial need, please keep.  If your child needs frequent changes of clothes due to bathroom problems, please send an extra set of clothes in their backpacks everyday.

Thank you,

Shannon O'Connor R.N.
