OBJ: Today you will be researching past weather and completing two national weather maps, one for an autumn day and another for a spring day in this last year.

Procedures:

By this time you should already have a handout from your teacher that has two US maps on it, if you do not have this, talk to your teacher

Pick two days of the year 2011, one in spring (March-May) and one in fall (September-November) and write the dates in the appropriate blank on your maps

Go to this website and find your days using the menu.

On your maps draw in the following features from your chosen days:

High Pressure (H)

Low Pressure (L)

Cold Fronts

Warm Fronts

Stationary Fronts

Go to this website and find the location of the jet stream(s), add them to your maps

When you are finished hold onto your paper, your teacher will pick them up from you at the end of class

You may go to this website, but no where else unless you have specific permission from your teacher

Welcome to the first blog post of the first project of the 2011-2012 school year! The project is titled Atomic "About Me", and the students will be creating an "about me" on a specific element to post on our class website.

Before I get too far into this I want to point out that the website I have been using to set up our class pages is currently blocked by the filtering software at the middle school. Mr. Schumacher and I are working on getting it unblocked so that students will have full access to it on campus. As of right now I can temporarily unblock it in my classroom for students that cannot work online from home. We MAY have to switch website providers, but I am hoping we do not have to. If we must switch it will be after this project, and I will make sure that any work done on this site is ported over to any new home we may have to move into.

Our classwebsite can be found

here

and is in the format of a wiki. For those of you unfamiliar with the wiki format ask your children, they should be able to tell you! Currently it does not have much content or links on it, that will change throughout the year as the students create and add content.

For this first project the information is located on the

here

on the pony projects portion of our website, you can also get to it by clicking through from the home page linked above.

If you have any questions please use the contact form on my school site (this one, not wikispaces) or email me at agoodman@mfisd.txed.net.

Have a great day!

What a great start to the school year! I am really looking forward to getting to know all of my students better over the next 9 months and having a lot of fun learning science.

Keep checking this blog for updated course information and details about assignments along the way.

You may also find me on Twiiter @MIster_Goodman you do not have to sign up to read my Twitter feed but if you already have an account go ahead and follow me, it is a great way to see what I'm up to professionally outside the classroom and every once in a while get a glimpse behind the teacher at the person.
